Burger Chatting with Chef Kevin Williamson

A cool fall breeze at dusk, illuminating patio string lights stretching across a breathtaking landscape, and the scent of seasoned ground beef searing on grills. It’s one of those epic eating evenings that one would not soon forget. For the seventh year in a row the annual Burgers and Burgundy affair was influential in raising funds and awareness for DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS). The event was held at the gorgeous home of Karen and William Seanor on October 2. Chefs and restaurants participating tempted guests with an array of meaty sliders and brilliant burgers. It was not uncommon to see a few finger licks and eye rolling ecstasy…

The event included Down to the Roots on Friday night which focused on chefs and their dishes, while Saturday’s event, the Grand Tasting was all about restaurants and chefs. Because words can’t do it justice, here’s a look back at some of the most intriguing dishes served during the event, including pig ear salad, fried antelope and even rabbit chorizo. Be careful, looking at these photos may result in drooling. TXMB

Third Annual Beer, Bourbon and Brisket Festival Recap

Ft. Worth’s Panther Island Pavilion was filled with the succulent aroma of grilled goodness this past Saturday, as lovers of three of the most important B words to ever grace Webster’s Dictionary came out to celebrate, Beer, Bourbon and Brisket. This year, barbeque joints across DFW came out to show folks just how tasty their meat really was, tempting event goers with sausage, ribs and of course brisket. Although there were only six food vendors at this year’s event, they all seemed to pile on the good stuff. Rudy’s for example gave a sample container of sausage, one rib and brisket, while Gas Monkey Bar and Grill piled teeny plates…

The Wine Down with Red Mare Wines

Jim Striegel is a man who loves his wine. But not just any wine. He’s the kind of man that’s straight to the point about his reds, and doesn’t hold any punches about his whites. It’s what you would expect from a man that’s been in the wine making business since he was a child. In 1974 his love of wine led him to work with Stags Leap Winery located in Napa Valley, CA. Today he continues to bottle that love of great wine as part owner of Red Mare Wines with his business partner, winemaker Anne Vawter.  I first had the opportunity to try Red Mare Wine during this…

BrewFest 2015 Recap

What happens when you bring great beer, karaoke, games and extra hype music together? Likely an all-around buzzed up drunken good time and plenty of smiling faces. For the fifth year in a row, BrewFest did not disappoint. They kept the good times going and plenty of suds flowing as event goers made their way through tons of beers under The Shed in Dallas Farmer’s Market. This year, there were plenty of winners. My top favorites go to most of the local breweries like the extra strong, Sit Down or I’ll Sit You Down from Peticolas Brewing. Community left me in anticipation mode for the upcoming State Fair of Texas…

A Glimpse at the First Course

DFW Restaurant Week:First Course You know you’ve entered a happy place when there are good hearted people walking around with trays of lollipops, but not just any kind of lollipops. Bacon wrapped venison lollipops stuffed with jalapeño, smoked mozzarella and molasses. After chomping down on one, you realize you’re not just in a happy place, but foodvana. The second annual DFW Restaurant Week: First Course kickoff party was an event of taste tenacity this year. Guests gathered last Thursday evening to partake in a variety of delicious samples from local eateries while enjoying clever cocktails, live music, and art. A portion of the proceeds from the taste bud teasing shindig…

Sausage Fest 2015 Recap

Sausage Fest 2015 You know you’re at Sausage Fest when: A. There’s a rather large handlebar mustache seesaw for you to hop on. B. When there are girls in pink bikini’s riding a mechanical bull. Or C, when the foot long hot dog on the menu is called Wat Dat Mouf Do. In case you’re wondering, all three of these things happened, but that was just a piece of the meaty mischievousness that occurred at this year at the third annual Sausage Fest. Held inside the popular Main Street Garden, guests had the opportunity to have all their “sausage needs” met. Hosted by the talented and racy crew of 105.3…

Taco Libre Recap

Taco Libre Heat and humidity, don’t have a shot in hell at deterring a Texan from a taco. The first annual Taco Libre festival seemed to bring out the entire city of Dallas and then some. The event started at 2PM, but even before that, the line began wrapping around the corner to get inside. Sadly, not everyone was able to partake in the festivities, as the event ended up completely selling out. Those who did make it past the gate were tempted with a number of taco options. A few of my personal favorites included the seasoned soft and tender barbacoa taco from Chile Pepper Grill in Fort Worth.…

When the Staycation Met the Taco

Le Taco Cantina-Rated 5 Stars The first thing you need to know about Le Taco Cantina is, it’s not Mexican food. You may find this hard to believe, considering the name of the place, and some of their specialty cocktails. But, Le Taco Cantina is much more than that. After all, when was the last time you went to a taco joint around town and they were serving grilled octopus, unagi eel, Persian cucumber, wasabi and avocado inside a fresh handmade corn tortilla? Go ahead, I’ll wait. Conveniently located on Oak Lawn Avenue, Le Taco is the type of neighborhood eatery that is somewhat difficult to describe, but in the…
