Sausage Fest 2015

You know you’re at Sausage Fest when: A. There’s a rather large handlebar mustache seesaw for you to hop on. B. When there are girls in pink bikini’s riding a mechanical bull. Or C, when the foot long hot dog on the menu is called Wat Dat Mouf Do. In case you’re wondering, all three of these things happened, but that was just a piece of the meaty mischievousness that occurred at this year at the third annual Sausage Fest.

Held inside the popular Main Street Garden, guests had the opportunity to have all their “sausage needs” met. Hosted by the talented and racy crew of 105.3 The FAN, they kept meat goers entertained with freestyle rapping, Vienna sausage juice drinking, and an Ooooh Wee Contest with Chris Arnold where a few good men used their muscular chops to see who could yell out the catch phrase for the longest. When the crew wasn’t clowning around on stage, DJ Melissa Richey kept the crowd pumped, spinning a variety of tunes. Meanwhile, Twiggy the water skiing squirrel, showboated his own celebrity in a pool. Unfortunately, I missed the master of the water ski, but I heard it was epic.

Of course there were also hands on activities including football throwing, and a dunk tank where you could splash Dallas cops and firefighters. Mechanical bull riding wasn’t just for bikini baring babes, but anyone who was interested in seeing just how long they could ride.

It’s a fact, no Sausage Fest would be complete without sausage. Each 105.3 The FAN radio personality had their very own sausage booth for the event serving up a little something different at each one. But, there’s only so much meat one person can take. The spicy Oooo Wee Sausage was my favorite, which I topped off with barbeque sauce. I wasn’t too crazy about the Skins N Balls, which included 4 rather gigantic balls of sausage inside a thick roll. Shan’s Small Hand Sausage wasn’t too shabby, which was a lightly spiced pig in a blanket. Although my lips never touched the foot long, aka Wat Dat Mouf Do, the mouths that did partake weren’t complaining.

For the most part, the sausage was simple, nothing to get overly excited about. However, while getting your meat fix, you could wash it down with a couple of Texas brews, or my personal favorite vodka Deep Eddy’s (My obsession with the Ruby Red Deep Eddy’s is kind of a big deal). Cutty Sark Scotch Blended Whisky was also there for those wanting something a little stronger.

All in all Sausage Fest was a blast. Sure, there are some eyebrow raising activities that might make a few folks blush and it isn’t at all kid friendly. But the truth is this event isn’t necessarily about the food, but it is definitely about the sausage. TxMB
