Till On: How Rae-Lili Met Chef Jacob Williamson

In 2013, Sofia and her husband Roy Martinez took a leap of faith and decided to turn spilled milk into tilled soil. It all began in 2011 when the couple decided to focus on making healthier lifestyle choices and save a few coins while doing so. Roy owned land in Cooper, TX., so each weekend they traded the big city for the country life, rolled up their sleeves and began to plant. Soon, the two were part time gardeners, selling their produce to local farmers markets and a couple of different restaurants. But, once Sofia found herself without a full-time job due to budget cuts, she decided that it…

CFF Main Event Recap 2018

Patiently waiting in line to meet up with my devouring destiny, I struck up a conversation with a couple. “We look forward to this event every year,” she happily exclaimed. Though they’d been tempted to attend other grubby galas around town, The Main Event for Chefs for Farmers ALWAYS got their coins. Once again, it was money well spent. Held at the historic Dallas Heritage Village for the first time, this year appetites were allured by a variety of delicious bites but wagyu beef took center stage. The Greek Food Festival of Dallas is a Hit Rain or Shine

Come rain or shine, people are going to get their gyros. The 62nd Greek Food Festival of Dallas was hit with a little bit of the wet stuff, but, the annual 3 day festival carried on. With their biggest turnout on Sunday, guests lined up for mouthwatering gyros, surrendered to the honeyed sweetness of loukoumades and gleefully chomped down on scrumptious souvlaki. And, don’t even talk about the spanakopita, dolmades or fried feta bites. Those are just the classics. New to this year’s festival was Galaktoboureko, a creamy custard held inside a flaky crispy phyllo pastry shell. It was a weekend of gracious grub, traditional Greek dancing and an all…

Itis Occurs During Soul Food Truck Fest

Beef tips and rice, fried chicken, catfish and collard greens. Surprisingly, that’s not the menu for your grandmother’s famous Sunday dinner. On September 30th Austin, Texas kicked off their first ever Soul Food Truck Festival. With grub from a variety of the city’s best soul food trucks, event goers made their way the Freedom Plaza at the Carver Museum to get their fill of #itis. This year’s food trucks included Down South Texas BBQ, My Granny’s Kitchen, Krab Kingz, Khandie’s Shaved Ice, The Hashburg and Krack of Dawn Donuts. Each location had their fair share of lengthy lines, but appetites seemed especially enthused by the Rolling Rooster. While…
