Most Beloved Bites of 2019

As the year comes to an end, I can say that it was filled with being full. Whether I was cracking crabs, tearing up some tacos or devouring my lifespan in sushi, this year brought me plenty of delectable and noteworthy dishes. Here are a few of my favorite bites from the year that was 2019. Bam’s Vegan, Shrimp and Sausage Nachos There are some things so good that you may find yourself searching for them in the daytime with a flashlight, and the Shrimp and Sausage Nachos from Bam’s Vegan meets that criteria. Though I am not a vegan, Brandon Waller, owner of Bam’s Vegan and his incredibly dedicated…

Going Totally Texan and Tacos at By the Horns Brewing

The greatest tacos ever to grace a greasy shell in DFW are almost always found inside an unsuspecting gas station. This is Texan knowledge 101. It goes in the same handbook that requires Texans to love anything dealing with longhorns, brews, queso, margaritas and recently, Topo Chico. By the Horns Brewing has not only read this handbook, they’ve turned it into doctrine. Located in Mansfield, By the Horns Brewing is the latest brainchild of Chef Jason Boso. He’s the man behind the comfort food classic concepts, Twisted Root Burger, (there’s also one next door) and the forever bustling Truck Yard. Some who’ve spent a little time chasing cheesesteaks and…

What to Order at the new Cinco Taco Bar

$$ What to order-  I’m a sucker for a good pastor taco and this one is exceptionally tasty. It’s made with grilled pineapple, cilantro and toasted cheese. Also worth a little of your taco time are the barbacoa and thinly sliced and griddled rib eye tacos. Don’t skimp on the margaritas, they are poured nice and tight. Where to find them– 7949 Walnut Hill Ln Ste 130 Dallas, TX 75230 Phone- (469) 567-3319 That whole parking thing – Preston Hollow Village has a rather large lot, so you should have no issue with finding a spot.

Escape to Tortaco

Tortaco – 4 Stars   miling and holding a half empty bottle Alejandro said, “There is an old saying in Mexico.” Handing over a slip of paper it read, “For all that’s wrong mezcal, and for all that is right as well.” Taking in another drink of my tonic, I quickly realized this saying was likely doctrine. Appearing more like a cozy ravenous dungeon than a restaurant, Tortaco is an escape from the “norm” when it comes to Mexican style cuisine in Dallas. Their menu does not boast margaritas, enchiladas and the Tex-Mex must, queso. Instead, you’ll find an assortment of delicious soft flour tortilla tacos, tortas, bowls and…

TACOLANDIA 2016 Recap

There was no way I could consume them all. But, damnit if I didn’t try. The second annual Dallas Observer’s TACOLANDIA somehow managed to be better this year. From carnitas and barbecue beef to rabbit and duck, the tacos were a little heftier and the options more varied. Take a glimpse back at some of the bonita shelled beauties from this year’s festival. First Annual Tacolandia Recap 2015

Anytime a person even considers eating tacos in Texas I think everyone in the state breaks out into collective hunger pangs and cravings. So, it should come as no surprise that the first annual Tacolandia event hosted by the Dallas Observer was packed to the shell with taco lovers. Held at City Hall Plaza, taco addicted people came out by the dozens to enjoy the all you can eat extravaganza. Some vendors stuck to the classic street taco with corn tortillas filled with barbacoa or pork, pairing it with fresh onions, cilantro, and salsa. El Come Taco kicked the classic up a bit, adding fresh pineapple to their flavorful pork…

When the Staycation Met the Taco

Le Taco Cantina-Rated 5 Stars The first thing you need to know about Le Taco Cantina is, it’s not Mexican food. You may find this hard to believe, considering the name of the place, and some of their specialty cocktails. But, Le Taco Cantina is much more than that. After all, when was the last time you went to a taco joint around town and they were serving grilled octopus, unagi eel, Persian cucumber, wasabi and avocado inside a fresh handmade corn tortilla? Go ahead, I’ll wait. Conveniently located on Oak Lawn Avenue, Le Taco is the type of neighborhood eatery that is somewhat difficult to describe, but in the…

The Shells of Enticement at Good 2 Go Taco

Good 2 Go Taco-Rated 4.8 Stars TXmb When the passionate throws of taco desire consume your stomach, choices must be made. You must ask yourself, what it is you are looking for in said taco, breakfast delight or lunch love. How much am I willing to spend on said taco? And finally, how are we feeling about the salsa factor here, important or nah? Good 2 Go Taco feels hidden. It doesn’t stand out and say, “Look at me Texas, I’m a taco joint.” Rather, this place smiles and teases from a distance without making bold assumptions of itself. I found them on a random hungered morning. Around 8:30am or…
