Devouring Denton: The Foodies Takeover

Getting out of town doesn’t always mean hoping on a plane. Sometimes you just need a getaway that feels far away without the matching price tag. So grab a few friends and make your way to a little town called Denton. Primarily known for cheap shots and college kids sporting Mean Green attire, one could easily dismiss Denton as being a party town for students. And while that’s true, this place still has more to offer than just Jell-O shots and freshman angst. To that avail, a few foodie pals and myself decided to descend upon the town and grub and sip our way through it. Before beginning our rendezvous…

A Look at Between the Buns

Burger lovers slid into slider heaven during the first ever, Dallas Observer Between the Buns event. Held at Dallas Farmers Market, some of the best sliders in town came out and showed out. Including favorites like Cook Hall, Chop House Burger, Haystack and my very beloved, Hutchins BBQ. While chowing down on sliders, cocktails and brews flowed at the cash bar and live music kept you shaking off the calories. After it was all said and done, if you weren’t waddling when walking out, you did something absolutely wrong. Here’s a glimpse at the goodness. PS, you may want to start saving room right now for next year’s Between…

A Taste of District Food and Wine

District Food and Wine – 5 Stars Buttery salmon, mouthwatering burgers and the type of  truffle mac and cheese that makes me question if I’ve actually been eating real mac and cheese or cheesy, noodled piles of nothingness. Located in the Design District, District Food and Wine proves that you can eat in merriment without spending a mint. Nothing on the menu is over 16 bucks.  Hours can be a little tricky here, so, if you do develop a craving for their grub, be sure to see if they’re open for business. Nothing worse than getting a hankering for something, only to find out they’re closed for the day. $$…

The Chelsea Corner Comeback

Chelsea Corner – 4 Stars It’s a Tuesday night, and the cocktail of choice is equal parts 20 to 30 somethings and empty nesters.  Since their inception in 1974, this has been the shaken and not stirred make-up for Chelsea Corner. Recently reopened, Chelsea Corner is up to its old tricks, but this time around they’ve added an extra punch to the elixir. Having never visited Chelsea Corner during their first go round, I wasn’t sure what to expect of the longstanding establishment. Revitalized by Len Critcher, owner of Inwood Tavern, and his longtime friend and Dallas investor Chris Camillo, the two cut their teeth here during their college days…

The Magic at Henry’s Majestic

Henry’s Majestic-4.5 Stars TXMB Tucked in the corners of McKinney there is a rather hidden but well-known gem. I should rephrase, for me being a rather unfortunate soul at directions it is pretty hidden. I had to ride around the neighborhood about 15 additional minutes to find the place, despite my phone navigation declaring that the destination was on the left. Once I found Henry’s Majestic, it wasn’t long after that I realized I’d found magic. Arriving around 5:45PM, the evening began with a kind greeting from a valet attendant. Because of course, you’re not Dallas unless you have valet. We clearly love it. Henry’s however, is complimentary, which is…

Burger Chatting with Chef Kevin Williamson

A cool fall breeze at dusk, illuminating patio string lights stretching across a breathtaking landscape, and the scent of seasoned ground beef searing on grills. It’s one of those epic eating evenings that one would not soon forget. For the seventh year in a row the annual Burgers and Burgundy affair was influential in raising funds and awareness for DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS). The event was held at the gorgeous home of Karen and William Seanor on October 2. Chefs and restaurants participating tempted guests with an array of meaty sliders and brilliant burgers. It was not uncommon to see a few finger licks and eye rolling ecstasy…

Sliders vs Swank at the Eberhard

The Eberhard 3.3 Stars Swank is not the easiest thing to pull off. In fact, it’s actually quite difficult, but when done correctly, there is no question that you get the feeling you’re sitting in the lap of luxury. It’s safe to say that the Eberhard has definitely done their research on swank. I arrived close to 6PM on a Friday to meet up with my pal for a little chitter chatter and happy hour. Pulling up, it was no surprise that the place requires valet. After all, this is Dallas, TX and valet is a way of life. Opening the large doors, I was pleasantly greeted by two lovely…

Harvey B’s and the Legend of Char Broiled Burgers

Harvey B’s Rated 4.7 Stars TXMB And here I thought perfect grill lines were just a legend, existing only in television, places that say you can “have it your way,” and intensely filtered Instagram photos. Haven’t you ever wondered if those legends were real, and if there really was such a thing as a real char broiled burger? Harvey B’s is just such a place of legend. Although this legend has only been around a little over four months it’s already drawing quite the interest. Located in East Dallas, Harvey B’s is a tiny joint with something like 5 stools and 4 chairs. There’s not tons of space inside to…
