Harvey B’s and the Legend of Char Broiled Burgers
Harvey B’s Rated 4.7 Stars TXMB
And here I thought perfect grill lines were just a legend, existing only in television, places that say you can “have it your way,” and intensely filtered Instagram photos. Haven’t you ever wondered if those legends were real, and if there really was such a thing as a real char broiled burger?
Harvey B’s is just such a place of legend. Although this legend has only been around a little over four months it’s already drawing quite the interest. Located in East Dallas, Harvey B’s is a tiny joint with something like 5 stools and 4 chairs. There’s not tons of space inside to sit and cavort so most people call their order in. If you decide to wait this will give you time to take in the décor on the walls that so heavily pays homage to East Dallas, or talk with the friendly employees creating magic on the grill. And YES I do mean magic.
During my first visit to Harvey’s I decided to order the patty melt on rye with big eye Swiss cheese. Most of the burgers are served as ¼ or ½ pounders. I went with the ¼ pounder, a side of onion rings and one of my favorite local brewskies, Revolver’s Blood and Honey to go. Oh, I should mention that while they sale beer, it cannot be consumed on the premises, you’ve gotta buy your beer and bounce. Waiting around, I began checking out the picture slide of burgers, and visitors of the establishment, really trying to get a good understanding of what I was about to get myself into. Then I saw them. I saw what their fries looked like and a tear almost began forming in the corner of my eye. Spiral cut fries. The kind that you can usually only find at The State Fair or Texas or randomly at some festivals and carnivals. I quickly went up and added fries to my order, along with the onion rings. Call it indulgent, but it had to be done.
The bottom of my brown paper bag was happily greasy by the time I made it home in Old Blue. First I dove into the onion rings. The extra seasoned fried onions were covered in a tasty light crispy batter They are a tad salty, but still highly recommended. Next I dove into the spiral cut fries. For those who don’t know, spiral cut fries are a lot like potato chips, but 5 million times better. The fries were well seasoned, perfectly crunchy and dunked quite nicely with the free side of queso provided by one of the kind souls at Harvey B’s. Finally, it was time to try the patty melt. I began unraveling the paper, to uncover to halves of what already looked like greatness. And when I pulled them apart, the cheese did that thing, that stringy, oh my gosh is this really happening thing. I bit down on my patty melt, and just like that all was right in the world. The buttery toasted bread, the pronounced flavor of Swiss cheese, grilled onions and of course the char broiled patty between it all were everything a patty melt should be and then some.
Unfortunately, there are no photos to commemorate this first venture to Harvey B’s, which is why I went back for additional evidence, to be sure I wasn’t fabricating this deliciousness in my mind. So, I got my hands on the ¼ pounder bacon cheese burger with grilled fresh jalapeños and another order of those unforgettable onion rings. After chomping down on the flavor filled char broiled beef, melty cheddar cheese, and crunchy fresh tongue tingling jalapeños I realized there was no question, the legend is real. TXmb

That whole parking thing-The parking lot is pretty tiny on the side of the shopping center where Harvey B’s is located. But, there are some other spaces around. I didn’t see any signs, so feel free to grab one. Most likely you will be in and out of here anyway.
