So This is What Sustainability Tastes Like

The day that tomato skins are made into storage bins is finally here thanks to Ford Motors. This past Wednesday the popular car company hosted a unique happy hour, with menu items highlighting many of the sustainable materials used throughout their lineup of vehicles. Hosted at the organic Mudhen Meat and Greens, it only made sense that Chef Suki Otsuki be tapped to craft the special menu. Items featured during the mixer were made with soy beans, coconut, wheat, tomatoes and dandelion greens, all of which help in creating different parts Ford vehicles. For example, dandelion greens are currently being researched as a more sustainable resource for rubber that could…

How to AM with Two Bosses

Anything happening before 2PM on a Saturday or Sunday means morning in my mind. The best part of those “mornings” are the many edible options this town so lovingly has to offer. For a moment in time, mimosas flow like water and breakfast tacos of all kinds become your tried and true dogma. We refer to these magical hours as brunch. It’s not the easiest thing in the world to join the brunch bandwagon in this city. Competition is steep, but Dos Jefes is attempting to pull this thing off. Previously known as the popular eatery, Nick and Sams Grill Uptown, owners Joseph Palladino and Nate Paul have completely revised the…

The Sidewalk Café Experience

Sidewalk Cafe  “Had I known you served food like this, I would have been coming here. I’m a little disappointed.” She grinned, happily forking down once more on her lightly seared ahi tuna. It wasn’t long after that she began plotting her next visit to the café around the corner from her apartment. Sidewalk Café is just the right amount of cozy, quaint meets sass. Perfectly located in Addison Circle, the vibe is friendly and welcoming. It’s not your everyday café. A person could come in for a cup of coffee, and leave having enjoyed a fabulous glass of wine, live music or even a little karaoke. The restaurant is…

Chefs for Farmers gets Party Going for Kickoff Seafood Boil

Chefs for Farmers knows how to throw a party no matter what. Last year, during the Culinary Village, which is supposed to be an outdoor event, at the last minute they transformed Gilley’s into an epic foodie wonderland with live music. During this year’s 2016 Kickoff Seafood Boil at the Rustic, though there was no rain, they kept with the tradition of extra dance worthy tunes, heaps of food, and mules. Some faces were filled with pure determination as they crushed and cracked whole red crawfish with their hands. Others, slowly slid the shell from large peppery Texas Gulf shrimp, served with asparagus and potatoes from Wayward Sons. Less fully…

A Look Back at SAVOR’s Grand Tasting

By 7:30 PM last Saturday evening, I was actually already full. The luscious venison roll ups from YO Ranch Steakhouse which marries bacon, venison, jalapeno, smoked mozzarella, that’s been grilled and  brushed with molasses Dijon was one of the culprits. The next suspect would have to be Five Sixty by Wolfgang Pucks’ tuna tartare. Literally dressed for the occasion, sitting ever so patiently in the crispiest, lightly sweetened miso cone that you ever wanted to see. I took two, but wanted 30. Then there was more venison that needed my attention. This time in the form of a hearty chili, topped with aged white cheddar and chives from The…

Local Brews Local Grooves Brings the Grub and the Suds

Anytime a mac n’cheese station, beer, and good local music is involved, you know you need to be there. This past Saturday, plenty of people brought their dancing shoes and appetites for beer and grub, during Local Brews Local Grooves. Held annually at House of Blues, the event was packed with room to room fun. Guests had the opportunity to sample a number of tasty suds from local breweries such as favorites like Peticolas, Revolver, and Deep Ellum Brewing Co. In total, beer lovers could try 15 Texas breweries. Of course, beer goes down even better with a little something tasty to soak it up. Peppery jalapeno and cheddar sausage,…

Get Chicken Served with a Side of Gratitude at Wing City

Wing City – 5 Stars Robi Minies can recall sitting in a parking lot, staring for hours at the same structure. Week after he went back and forth to this location, always staring and grasping with whether or not he wanted to purchase the structure. On one faithful evening, he decided he’d stared long enough. He called wife and asked her to meet him. When she arrived he smiled and said, “Honey, we’re going into the chicken wing business.” In April it will mark three years since Robi opened Wing City and he doesn’t take that lightly. Sharing the parking lot with one of Garland’s most popular restaurants, Babe’s Chicken,…

The First Temptation: Five Swoon Worthy Appetizers to Try

Before chowing down on the main event, it’s always nice to get the grubbage going with that first temptation, aka appetizer, aka app, aka starter. How could you not be tempted?   Green Room Mussels 20 Feet Seafood  Joint Mussels and muscles. Two great things. One you can eat, the other one makes you feel and look good. In fact sometimes you need muscles to eat mussels, (insert half grin or eye roll here). They may have a following for their lobster roll and…

The Magic at Henry’s Majestic

Henry’s Majestic-4.5 Stars TXMB Tucked in the corners of McKinney there is a rather hidden but well-known gem. I should rephrase, for me being a rather unfortunate soul at directions it is pretty hidden. I had to ride around the neighborhood about 15 additional minutes to find the place, despite my phone navigation declaring that the destination was on the left. Once I found Henry’s Majestic, it wasn’t long after that I realized I’d found magic. Arriving around 5:45PM, the evening began with a kind greeting from a valet attendant. Because of course, you’re not Dallas unless you have valet. We clearly love it. Henry’s however, is complimentary, which is…
