In The Sack Rated 4 Stars TXMB

It’s been a long day. Maybe the longest ever, and all you really want to do is kick back some booze, chow down on something tasty and run an unending marathon of newly released shows on Netflix. But, the liquor store is far away and usually crowded. So, begrudgingly you decide to pick up a quick bite at the closest fast food joint, quickly forgoing any dreams of good wine and good grub. Good news, your days of choosing between getting yourself a bottle of bueno vino or going home and slumming it in your sweats have officially ended.

IN THE SACK Make Love Not Meals

Gourmet food, meets booze, meets you not having to leave your house to pick it up. That’s the thinking behind Devin Cox’s unique concept, In the Sack. In the Sack allows people to order chef prepared meals and alcohol for delivery or pick up. And by the way, we aren’t just talking about your run of the mill beer and wine you would find in your local grocery store. Like the delicious red wine, If You See Kay (be sure to say the name out loud) that begins with sweet fruity notes and concludes with a peppery finish. Cox also has the hardcore stuff too like Texas’ own Deep Eddy Vodka, Bailey’s and even Jack Daniels to name a few. On top of selling the good stuff, prices are still fairly reasonable. According to Cox a $20 bottle of wine that you purchase in his store would run you an average of 50 to 60 bucks in a restaurant.  IN THE SACK Shaggy Dog1IN THE SACK wrap

He began his vision for In the Sack almost a year ago, explaining that after having been in the restaurant industry for 35 years, he wanted to try something else. “I’ve owned my own restaurants, and opened about 300 restaurants throughout my career. So, when it came time for me to do something new, I did not want to open a restaurant. That’s when I started thinking about creating a small food store, similar to the ones in NYC and Chicago,” Cox explained. IN THE SACK Food Selections

You will find a nice mix of grub at In the Sack. They sale several different soups, salads and wraps along with heartier meals like lasagna, and roasted chicken. I got my hands on a couple of their signature items like the pepperoni pizza and Caribbean wings.

The personal sized pepperoni pizza is generous with cheese and pepperoni, plus the sauce has a subtle sweetness. But, it’s the super soft grilled naan bread used as pizza dough that makes the pie a real winner. Recently, they’ve even begun making sushi. Their most popular roll is the Shaggy Dog, a combination of cream cheese, jalapeño, avocado and crab, wrapped in rice, then more crab and drizzled with their special sauce and crunchy fried onions. The spice of the jalapeno pairs well with the sweet flavor of the special sauce. The roll tastes exactly like Texas if Texas decided to become sushi.

IN THE SACK If You See KayThe Caribbean wings are marinated in a succulent island sauce that extends itself throughout the bite of each wing. They are served with an additional sauce, carrot and celery sticks. The side sauce has is somewhat like ranch with a twist. Not necessarily a fan, I prefer the wings without the sauce. IN THE SACK Daughter UT

It should definitely be noted that meals can be delivered hot or cold. Cox, laughed explaining that since opening the business he’s learned that most of the time people would rather not deal with their ovens and microwaves. So, you can guess, most orders are delivered hot. And if you’re in the area, feel free to pop in and pick up you meal or have it warmed up and eat it there. In the Sack is definitely all about convenience. IN THE SACK Twice baked tators and champagne

In the Sack already has a rather extensive reach with their deliveries across Dallas, but don’t think Cox is stopping here. He is currently looking at expanding to the West Plano and Arlington area. But, he is looking at changing things up a bit in his other locations. “I can’t tell you everything, but I can tell you we have come up with even more ways to make purchasing alcohol convenient. We are probably going to have a more limited selection of food. Some locations may not even have food at all,” Cox explained.

Beyond creating a winning concept, Devin attributes his success to an amazing staff, this includes his daughter Tauri, a recent graduate from UT, (hook ‘em). “My delivery people are always in uniform, friendly and professional,” Devin said. Just another reason to Make Love and not Food. TXMb
