Ivy Tavern 3.5 Stars

The best Saturday nights carry over into Sunday mornings. In case you were wondering, a good indication of a Saturday evening well spent are flashbacks of going toe to toe with Mr. Daniels and JB, then finishing up with some fancy footwork. Preferably to The Macarena.

After such wonderfully foolish behavior, you’ll likely awaken feeling quite famished and possibly a tad bit embarrassed. Well, at least one of those can be cured with a fork. The ultimate dive bar, Ivy Tavern is currently offering the perfect hangover solution with their new Ivy divey brunch buffet.

First, remember, that this is a dive bar. So, don’t expect white tablecloths. This all you can devour brunch happens on paper plates. Even if you have to wear your darkest pair of sunny shades to cover your well-earned red eyes from the evening before, sit on the patio. Sporting its very own full bar, big screen televisions, and a pretty damn good DJ, it’s nice and cozy.

After settling in, if you’re feeling brave, grab a mimosa for $3, or choose from one of their other specialty brunch cocktails. I decided on the Smoky Maria, a Bloody Mary with Ivy’s infused Smoky Jalapeño Don Julio Tequila. You definitely taste the pepperiness reaching out from the jalapeño, and it lands right there in the throat. If you prefer more sweetness with your morning booze, try The Eden; a mixture of Crown Royal Apple, homemade lemonade and a splash of cranberry juice. Personally, it’s a little too sweet for me.

The buffet is small, but provides everything your little hangover heart desires. Offerings include chicken, waffles, French toast, eggs, granola, yogurt, biscuits, gravy, bacon, tators and sausage. Bacon is nice and crispy, with a bit of black pepper coating. Waffles, are mostly fluffy and perfectly squared while the chicken tenders are a little more on the hard battered side. The yogurt is plain which is just fine when topped off with their crunchy semi-sweet granola. But, the real winner of this small, yet filling spread is the biscuits. Incredibly soft, they simply melt. I could have eaten about 3, but as you might imagine these bad boys go pretty quickly. Topping them with cream gravy is an added bonus.

It seems that Ivy Tavern is on to a good thing here. Although it’s not life changing, the brunch is good, especially for 15 bucks. Who knows, after a full belly, a few more mimosas and brunch cocktails you may be ready to restart that fancy footwork again. Soul Train line anyone? TxMb.

That whole parking thing- Suprisingly, it’s not too bad here. There’s a lot in the back, so you should be alight.
