Going Totally Texan and Tacos at By the Horns Brewing

The greatest tacos ever to grace a greasy shell in DFW are almost always found inside an unsuspecting gas station. This is Texan knowledge 101. It goes in the same handbook that requires Texans to love anything dealing with longhorns, brews, queso, margaritas and recently, Topo Chico. By the Horns Brewing has not only read this handbook, they’ve turned it into doctrine. Located in Mansfield, By the Horns Brewing is the latest brainchild of Chef Jason Boso. He’s the man behind the comfort food classic concepts, Twisted Root Burger, (there’s also one next door) and the forever bustling Truck Yard. Some who’ve spent a little time chasing cheesesteaks and…

Not everyone gets a kick out of celebrating a holiday made extra famous by sappy cards, teddy bears and chocolates. But, make those chocolates liquor filled and replace that teddy bear with a homemade wagyu steak dinner paired with something potent to sip, well, Valentine’s Day becomes a day truly worth rejoicing in. This year consider skipping the crowds, valet parking, and price fixed menus for an evening in with a few of these local scrumptious options.   Texas Craft Wagyu If you’re going to pay for a steak, then let it be one that’s aged at least 30 days, marvelously marbled and just as buttery as butter. CFF Main Event Recap 2018

Patiently waiting in line to meet up with my devouring destiny, I struck up a conversation with a couple. “We look forward to this event every year,” she happily exclaimed. Though they’d been tempted to attend other grubby galas around town, The Main Event for Chefs for Farmers ALWAYS got their coins. Once again, it was money well spent. Held at the historic Dallas Heritage Village for the first time, this year appetites were allured by a variety of delicious bites but wagyu beef took center stage. Some took a traditional approach to the tender meat, but others went a cut above, like the Wagyu Beef Gyro Airbread or the…

It’s nearly time for one of the most delightfully delicious food and drinking events of the year, Chefs for Farmers. Once again, the annual premier celebration of food and wine kicked off with The Mix Off presented by Maker’s Mark and Patron. Of course no CFF event is complete without a few mouthwatering bites. Like a tender beefy taco topped with crushed chicharrones and ox tail fried rice to die for. Get your tickets for the main event in November. TXmB

Shell Shack Makes Henderson Home

Shell Shack – 4 Stars Seasoning soaked fingers are getting easier to come by. Shell Shack Uptown closed their doors recently and reopened a bigger, shellier space on Henderson Ave. This is just one of several latest Shell Shack locations to open. With the Henderson spot, Shell Shack is giving customers more patio space, more drinks and plenty of seafood. If you’ve never been, I always recommend going for a bag, preferably the Kitchen Sink with Dungeness crab, tators, sausage and broccoli. Crab connoisseurs should try the bairdi snow crabs here. It’s a little sweeter but less dense than your standard snow. According to Chief Executive Officer of Shell Shack,…

Whiskey Cake Comes to Irving

There’s whiskey and there’s cake. The name of this restaurant alone brings joy to my taste buds. Now, Whiskey Cake is spreading that whiskey soaked joy to Irving. The eatery recently opened their sixth location, finally providing the folks of Las Colinas with a little taste. With their latest location, you can still expect to be whisked away by their ever growing whiskey selection. For the grubbers that know, their deviled eggs are still a staple, with the ingredients changing often. One day their filled with smoked salmon, another topped off with fried chicken skin. It’s rather remarkable to know that a deviled egg can be so damn…
