Tongue tingling satisfaction returned to Irving for the annual Zest Fest. Held at the Irving Convention Center, vendors, celebrity chefs and ready to risk it all foodies were in attendance. The weekend long festivities included an Atomic Wing Eating Contest, Puckerbutt’s Jalapeño Eating Contest, and the Eddie Deen Pig Roast Dinner. Seasonings, rubs barbeque and hot sauces were among the many options available for sampling and purchase. Both national and local vendors made their presence known this year including Bravado Spice Co., Poks Spices, KA-RANCH, and Lone Star Pepper Co. Cheese Charming at Dallas Grilled Cheese Co.

Dallas Grilled Cheese Co. TXmb Rated 4.8 Stars When was the last time you or your mom made one? Grabbed a couple of spongey soft slices of simplistic white bread, smoothed butter on all four sides, topped them off with 4 slivers of good ole fashioned American Cheese, slapped it all together in a cast iron skillet and started the process of grilling some cheese. For me it’s been ages, probably somewhere around middle school to be exact. You know that time in life you know everything, including the best way to concoct the world’s greatest grilled cheese. To my 13-year-old self I can officially say, ‘You know nothing of…

Third Annual Dallas Whiskey and Fine Spirits Festival Recap

ooze, booze and more booze was the name of the game during the Third Annual Dallas Whiskey and Fine Spirits Festival. It all began at 5:30 PM when two lovely ladies dressed in super cute red flapper styled dresses opened a pair of double doors and asking, “Are you ready to have an amazing time?” Inside, my ears were greeted by the very cool and elusive sounds of Cassie Holt and the Lost Souls. After checking my coat, I picked up one of the cute commemorative glasses filled with gaming money, and a drinking card. I’d been salivating over the idea of whiskey all day long, but first…

Yum Yum at Tom Yum Thai

Tom Yum Thai-Rated 3.8 Stars txMB It was time again, and the beckoning of the belly was upon me. For this gastric adventure I decided to go Thai. I’d heard quite a bit about Tom Yum Thai from different people. Hooray, hooray they all say, go and get the lunch buffet. Well, I’ve said once, I’ll say it a trillion times, I am a fan of a good buffet. Endless choices, flat price and plate after plate of comida. Buffets and booze over boys anytime. With that in mind, I hopped in reliable Old Blue, and headed to Tom Yum Thai. It was a Friday, and Friday’s are special at…

The Afrah Appetite

AFRAH-Rated 4.5 Stars TXmb uffet is a longstanding love of mine. Good buffet that is. Few things compare to mounds of food draping across a plate in preparation for consumption. Afrah offers just such a delight. I’d been scoping this place for some time, anxious to try it. After my chow down at the Lebanese Food Festival recently, I thought it was only right to keep the party going at Afrah, which serves Lebanese and Mediterranean cuisine. Hungered tummy and palate pal in tow, we hopped in Old Blue and made the drive to Afrah. Inside the open café styled eatery, sat plenty of patrons chatting amongst themselves while others…

An Education: Recap of the Lebanese Food Festival

t was an evening of first tastes at the 19th annual Lebanese Food Festival held at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church in Lewisville, Texas. Parking and admission were free but the eats, well that was a different story. Coupons were $1 each, items were between 2-14 coupons, not horribly expensive, but not horribly inexpensive either. The family friendly weekend long event featured kids’ activities, authentic Lebanese art work and live music, and while those things were just smashing, this article is about the food. My bites began with the stuffed grape leaves. I’ve often seen stuffed grape leaves at grocery stores in the olive bar. They always reminded…
