Whisked Away at Whisk Crepes Cafe

Whisk Crepes Cafe – 4.5 Stars My first experience with crepes came by way of the 24 hour Dallas eatery, Buzzbrews and their Flying Chicken Crepe. Ideal for a first time “creper”, it is a mixture of fresh spinach, tomato, onion and portabella mushrooms pan sautéed with marinated grilled chicken, rolled into a homemade crepe with mozzarella cheese, then topped off with poblano cream sauce. Eventually my infatuation with this crepe ran its course. In search of another crepe experience, I was none too thrilled about the eggy or sugar filled small thin pancakes that so often appeared on breakfast and brunch menus. And so, the search ended. Then a…

Don’t Tell Supper Club, The Experience

Don’t Tell Supper Club – 4.7 Stars Pull a sword from a man’s throat. Watch in awe as people go through rings and suspend themselves in curtains aka aerial performances. Sip on a cocktail aptly named Green Eggs and Ham then let your fork slip into tender Smoked Yellowtail Sashimi. This isn’t someplace you need a plane to get to. But, it is an escape from the norm. Don’t Tell Supper Club isn’t your average night out in Dallas. Tucked away in Downtown Dallas, from the outside, there’s really nothing too assuming about Don’t Tell. Open Thursday through Saturday night, this place easily blends into the fabric of buildings surrounding…

Greek Food Festival 2017 Recap

Already stuffed from the spinach and cheese inside crispy phyllo, aka spanakopita and seasoned dolmas, I still yearned for another gyro. Just as I began waddling closer to the stand, I realized this belly could handle no more Greek goodness. For the 62nd year, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church put on the Greek Food Festival of Dallas. The three day long festivities included dancing, music, shopping and absolutely mouthwatering Greek food. The food. There’s so much to say about the food. It tastes like spending the weekend inside the kitchen of your sweet little Greek grandmother and being fed loads of love by the forkfuls. Some of the tantalizing…

A Conversation with UCE Founder Bryan Townsend

It’s OK to lose your inhibitions as long as you’re safe, and it’s for a good cause. Returning for their sixth year, the Ultimate Cocktail Experience is set to wet whistles on September 30th.  Once again, this charitable event will benefit Triggers for Toys, helping to bring together brand distributors, incredible bartenders and consumers for an evening of innovative cocktails. Raising over $200,000 last year the organization was created to help in reducing the financial burdens of chronically ill children. This year, UCE will keep the cocktails flowing with six unique bar concepts that will represent different parts of the world. Bartenders must show off their skills and produce one…

Getting Saucy at Razzoos

Sauce and more sauce. That’s the joy of visiting Razoos. Take a glimpse at a few of their dishes and sauces. Most notable sauce is the BBQ Ouch with grilled alligator. The Tchoupitoulas is also worth your time, particularly because of the Crawfish Lemon Butter Sauce. Where to find them – Various locations.

Brunch at Kenny’s Smokehouse

Kenny’s Smokehouse – 5 Stars $$ It seems that Kenny’s Restaurant Group has the monopoly on tasty restaurants. So, it should come as no surprise that brunch at Kenny’s Smoke House in Shops at Legacy is nothing short of down home deliciousness. Their new brunch menu combines smoky goodness with classic items, such as the Smoke House Benedict on a brioche bun topped with poached eggs, béarnaise sauce and your choice of pulled pork, brisket or smoked salmon. What to Order– You cannot truly experience brunch here until you’ve tried the Ross’s Famous Chicken Fried Brisket and Eggs. The brisket is smoky and tender then cooked in a seasoned, light…

Sipping Swank for Six Bucks at Cedars Social

The Cedars Social is the type of place where egg whites meet frothy, alcohol induced endings poured inside coupe glasses. Since opening in 2011, prohibition style elixirs have served as the focal point of this swanky bar with a not so vintage looking price tag to match. But, with the start of their new happy hour and late night menu, the swank has now become affordable. Don’t expect your standard rum and Cokes or vodka soda’s. Instead you’ll find seven complex craft cocktails like the Self Starter made with gin, Gifford Apricot, lillet and absinthe or the Death in the Gulf Stream, a name that kind of says…

The End of Cheating at Nazca Kitchen

Nazca Kitchen We all appreciate a good cheat day. Ordering butter, cheese and fried themed foods just because you deserve it and it tastes so good. Sure, it may come at the expense of a food coma and a wardrobe upgrade to stretch pants, but, you’ve already committed to cheating for the day. But, what if you could fork around without consequences and cheat days could be every day. Enter Nazca Kitchen. Truthfully there’s really no room to be “bad, bad” at Nazca. It’s not exactly tolerated. The light and airy environment directly translates to the menu which takes a healthier approach to South American cuisine. Here, you can actually…

A Taste of the Whimsical at Sai

Spring rolls aren’t something you will find on the starters section of the menu at Sai Fine Asian Bistro. Instead, you’ll spot appetizers like fried brussel sprouts in a sweet and tangy chili plum sauce and their tangy take on braised pork belly. But it doesn’t stop with the starters. Sai’s menu is tossed in the whimsical with sprinkles of the traditional for good measure. Items served at Sai are the foodchild of Chef Eddy. Somewhere smack dab between upscale and affordable, Eddy has left his mark on this Colleyville eatery, creating dishes that make you ask, “What’s that seasoning in there?” It’s a question that you might ask while…

A Light Dive Inside Windmill Lounge

Windmill Lounge is the type of hidden dive you need in your pocket. Sure parking isn’t the greatest, but you deal with it because the drinks are good and strong. Here you’re likely to make memories at 12 AM and forget them by 4 AM. But, before those memories start fading into your Windmill Whiskey Sour, you need to order some grub.   Located near the Medical District since 2005, the crowd here is a scattered mix of scrubs, regulars and a few newbies sprinkled in for good measure. Appetites may vary, but so too does their new drink and food menus.  You’ll want to begin by wetting your whistle…
