A Glimpse at the First Course

DFW Restaurant Week:First Course You know you’ve entered a happy place when there are good hearted people walking around with trays of lollipops, but not just any kind of lollipops. Bacon wrapped venison lollipops stuffed with jalapeño, smoked mozzarella and molasses. After chomping down on one, you realize you’re not just in a happy place, but foodvana. The second annual DFW Restaurant Week: First Course kickoff party was an event of taste tenacity this year. Guests gathered last Thursday evening to partake in a variety of delicious samples from local eateries while enjoying clever cocktails, live music, and art. Third Annual Dallas Whiskey and Fine Spirits Festival Recap

ooze, booze and more booze was the name of the game during the Third Annual Dallas Whiskey and Fine Spirits Festival. It all began at 5:30 PM when two lovely ladies dressed in super cute red flapper styled dresses opened a pair of double doors and asking, “Are you ready to have an amazing time?” Inside, my ears were greeted by the very cool and elusive sounds of Cassie Holt and the Lost Souls. After checking my coat, I picked up one of the cute commemorative glasses filled with gaming money, and a drinking card. I’d been salivating over the idea of whiskey all day long, but first…

All the Juice Behind Vim+Vigor

Vim+Vigor- Rated 5 Stars TXMB n intensely satisfying game of table shuffleboard happened that night. Along with four friendly glassfuls of various concoctions. One sake bomb, one large sake, 2 glorious vodka and sodas with lime and to top off the evening, chilled shots of Patron. The night was about birthday celebration and the joys of slapping 27 in the face and giggling about it. The next morning 27 explained that it doesn’t take those slaps so nicely. A few nice sprinkles of sweet sleep happened, then I drank a few big chugs of coffee and hopped in Old Blue to meet the ladies of Vim+Vigor. After a quick tour…

First Year is a Charm @Fork and Cork 2014

Fork and Cork 2014 Decadent. Gourmet. Bon Vivant. All words synonymous with this past weekend’s two day affair Fork and Cork. Held at Addison’s Circle Park, the first annual “celebration of taste” took the place of Taste of Addison. Different, you betcha. Fork and Cork kept it kiddo free with the 21 and up crowd, catering to the luxury of food and spirits. Upon entry gourmet goers were given a fancy pamphlet of activities, a ticket to the Grand Tasting Area, and a redeemable $50 coupon that turned out to be two $25 gift certificates to Chamberlains. Not too shabby. Food samples were $2 to $5 each. Some of my…

Fourth Year of Flavor @ Iron Fork

Iron Fork 2014 Last night’s Iron Fork event could be summed up in a few words; foodtastic boozelosity epicness. This year’s Iron Fork was held in Fair Park inside the Centennial Hall. The fourth annual event did not disappoint, giving folks a few good tastes of Texas, rather fine elixirs to wash it down with and a showdown of chefs hosted by the famous Kent Rathbun. This year was all about the taco, as several eateries whipped up their versions of the shelled delights. Vickery Park served up a juicy filling chicken taco that left me plate picking. Luna’s also went the way of the taco with fresh cilantro, onions…

Be Mine Red Velvet Valentine-Peticolas-Part 3

Peticolas-Rated 4.5 Stars txMB Let me preface this by saying, while the focus of “Be Mine Red Velvet Valentine” is all things red velvet, this beer actually has nothing to do with Red Velvet. However, this very fine brewski made the cut. “Smooth as velvet and hits you like a hammer.” Don’t you wish that was your real life tagline? Unfortunately friends, it’s already taken.  Velvet Hammer is a 9% Imperial Red Ale produced by the fun folks at Peticolas Brewing Company. The most popular brewski of their bunch of beers, this brew strikes a blow. For the beerologists out there you should know Velvet Hammer has 85 IBUs making it a…

Black Swan Saloon; the Birth of Cool

[dropcap color=”color-default” font=”arial” style=”normal” size=”scmgc-5em”]S[/dropcap]porting jeans, a baseball cap, and a black and white[dropcap color=”color-default” font=”arial” style=”normal” size=”scmgc-5em”][/dropcap] t-shirt reading FUCK WITH ME and inked arms, Gabriel Sanchez makes brisk movements through his establishment. He whacks away at pineapples, shedding the hulls and cubing chunks with such rhythmic swiftness it’s mesmerizing. “Honestly, people have done it before me and will continue to do it after me. It’s not something that I made up at all. But if you do it right, it’s difficult. You have to cut the fresh fruit every single week and drain it. There’s a lot of steps involved, but it’s good. ” Gabe explained. Once he’s…

Campfire Coffee at Bolsa

Bolsa-4.5 Stars txMB Two chilly chickadees chasing warmth on a particularly brisk December day in Dallas decided to try their luck in the Bishop Arts District. Sick of seeking a fireplace for heat, they chose booze for the bones at Bolsa. Inside, it was inviting and endearing. They picked up their chatter about life, and all that it entails and ordered a few cozy cocktails. To their wonderful delight, they came out just right. Great Campfire Coffee, cleverly composed with , whipped cream, brown simple syrup, cayenne pepper, and a few shots of Irish Whiskey. Laughing and sipping away, they realized that this had been a wonderful and giddy December…

Tuesday Margarita Delight at E Bar

E-Bar Tex Mex- 3.5 Stars TxMb Tuesday after the gruel of the grind, it’s time to unwind. Or perhaps you fancy yourself a hooky player and decided to call “the man” while fictitiously harking up a lung. Whatever your story, you still deserve a margarita. E Bar is a wonderful place to be on a tipsy Tuesday. All day long they are serving up $3 margaritas. It’s actually a lovely good thing because they don’t skimp on the tequila and they are open until 2am. Yes. You can go frozen or get really crazy and get it on the rocks. Oh, and by the way, E Bar is also a…
