A Q & A with Executive Chef Tysun Thomas of Steel

On April 27th a much loved dining destination reopened its doors. Having been around for nearly 20 years, Steel has reemerged from eatery ashes. With a refreshed artistic interior and “loungey” feel, Steel has definitely spruced up their space. But, the changes haven’t stopped there. Enter new Executive Chef Tysun Thomas. Cooking new life into the menu, here are a few things to know about Steel’s Le Cordon Bleu Chef. What drew you to Steel? I wanted to share my gifts with an established restaurant like Steel because of my passion for Asian cuisine and the culture, also I have a high regard for the intricacy of making sushi and…

Sharing is Caring at The Brixton

Slated to open this month, The Brixton joins, Ringos Pub, Addison Ice House, Mucky Duck, Scruffy Duffies, Saintsburry Tavern and Brian’s Red Bus. With each concept owners Jerry Elliot and Brian Harder have worked to make the experience a little different at each concept. Part of that difference comes from the recent addition of Patrick Stark AKA The Mohawked Chef.  With his colorfully tall mohawk, Stark is a man who likes to make statements. This has turned out to be exceptionally true with food. Interested in creating a more balanced approach to the cuisine served at each concept, Stark is able to mix the need for health conscious and “dude…

T Blancos is a Taste of the Unexpected

T Blancos, 4.3 Stars Bite after bite, there was one word that kept coming to mind after diving fork first into each dish: Unexpected. From frozen Crown and Cokes to their apple slaw laced in cilantro, poblano peppers and zesty lime, T Blancos is definitely here to make taste buds ponder. For their second location, T Blancos decided to go big in Addison. They occupy the building that once belonged to popular lounge and restaurant, Button’s. The space was completely revitalized, there’s even talks of adding an upstairs patio. Having never visited T Blancos’ original location in Lakeport, Texas, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the eatery. Still, I…

A Conversation with Chef Robert Clifford

It’s nearly 7:00 PM. Almost show time. The kitchen is buzzing with movement and aroma as the first item for this evenings sold out monthly Sunday Super prepares for a final toss. Fresh deep red crawfish, potatoes, sausage and corn make a brief and colorful appearance into the air before being plated. By the end of tonight’s elaborate New Orleans themed family style dinner held in the back dinning room, Nick & Sam’s Steakhouse Executive Chef Robert Clifford would be receiving more than his fair share of accolades. At 31, he’s left his mark at some of Dallas’ finest restaurants including The Palm Steakhouse and The Capital Grille. Robert said that he…

Fair Food Goes Gourmet at Sea Breeze

Once a year locals around this state take a vow to engulf their taste buds in the deep fried pleasures that can only be found at the State Fair of Texas. Among the most common of these pleasantries are corny dogs and to a lesser extent French fries. With their addition of two new menu items, Plano based Sea Breeze is adding their own seafood spin on these two fair favorites. Sea Breeze is a place that has an ease about itself. It’s not a fru fru, pretentious seafood restaurant, but somewhere patrons feel like regulars. A small but fully stocked bar sits to one corner of the restaurant…

Avocado and Tequila Make it Official

Usually, I prefer for my avocado and tequila to keep a respectable distance. They may go to the same party, but they have different friends. One kicks it hardcore with tortilla chips, while the other is best buds with shot glasses, and limes.  So, when I heard that there was an avocado margarita being served at Cantina Laredo I immediately thought a line was crossed? What were these two doing canoodling together?  Happily this is a love affair that works. Recently launched at all Cantina Laredo’s, I decided to test out this new concoction at the 32-year-old Addison location. The margarita is made with 1800 Añejo Tequila with Midori Melon…

The Sidewalk Café Experience

Sidewalk Cafe  “Had I known you served food like this, I would have been coming here. I’m a little disappointed.” She grinned, happily forking down once more on her lightly seared ahi tuna. It wasn’t long after that she began plotting her next visit to the café around the corner from her apartment. Sidewalk Café is just the right amount of cozy, quaint meets sass. Perfectly located in Addison Circle, the vibe is friendly and welcoming. It’s not your everyday café. A person could come in for a cup of coffee, and leave having enjoyed a fabulous glass of wine, live music or even a little karaoke. The restaurant is…

The Magic at Henry’s Majestic

Henry’s Majestic-4.5 Stars TXMB Tucked in the corners of McKinney there is a rather hidden but well-known gem. I should rephrase, for me being a rather unfortunate soul at directions it is pretty hidden. I had to ride around the neighborhood about 15 additional minutes to find the place, despite my phone navigation declaring that the destination was on the left. Once I found Henry’s Majestic, it wasn’t long after that I realized I’d found magic. Arriving around 5:45PM, the evening began with a kind greeting from a valet attendant. Because of course, you’re not Dallas unless you have valet. We clearly love it. Henry’s however, is complimentary, which is…
