5 Foodie Boozy Indulgences for Valentine’s Day

Not everyone gets a kick out of celebrating a holiday made extra famous by sappy cards, teddy bears and chocolates. But, make those chocolates liquor filled and replace that teddy bear with a homemade wagyu steak dinner paired with something potent to sip, well, Valentine’s Day becomes a day truly worth rejoicing in. This year consider skipping the crowds, valet parking, and price fixed menus for an evening in with a few of these local scrumptious options.   Texas Craft Wagyu If you’re going to pay for a steak, then let it be one that’s aged at least 30 days, marvelously marbled and just as buttery as butter. Texas Craft…

CFF Main Event Recap 2018

Patiently waiting in line to meet up with my devouring destiny, I struck up a conversation with a couple. “We look forward to this event every year,” she happily exclaimed. Though they’d been tempted to attend other grubby galas around town, The Main Event for Chefs for Farmers ALWAYS got their coins. Once again, it was money well spent. Held at the historic Dallas Heritage Village for the first time, this year appetites were allured by a variety of delicious bites but wagyu beef took center stage. Some took a traditional approach to the tender meat, but others went a cut above, like the Wagyu Beef Gyro Airbread or the…

CFF Kicks off with The Mix Off 2018

It’s nearly time for one of the most delightfully delicious food and drinking events of the year, Chefs for Farmers. Once again, the annual premier celebration of food and wine kicked off with The Mix Off presented by Maker’s Mark and Patron. Sippers gathered at DEC on Dragon to become judges for a day, and vote on which cocktails would become the signature drink for CFF 2018. Of course no CFF event is complete without a few mouthwatering bites. Like a tender beefy taco topped with crushed chicharrones and ox tail fried rice to die for. Get your tickets for the main event in November. TXmB

The Biscuit Bar Bedazzles with Buttery Biscuits

The Biscuit Bar – 5 Stars Few things in this edible existence are worse than biting into a dry biscuit. You will require no less than a gallon of water to wash down the unpleasantness. But, when a biscuit is buttery and soft with just the right amount of crispness, then you have found a beautiful, beautiful biscuit and chances are, you’re eating it at The Biscuit Bar. A place that serves biscuits, tots, and alcohol on tap sounds too deliciously carby and boozy to be true. But, alas it is. Located inside The Boardwalk at Granite Park in Plano, owners Jake and Janie Burkett are serving up comfort one…

Getting Fried at #getfried Fry Cafe

#getfried Fry Cafe Part of the joy in being alive comes from knowing that fries exist. And there are so many versions of their fried potato existence. But, ask yourself, could you imagine a place where the menu is primarily made up of…fries. It exists. #getfried fry cafe recently opened in Deep Ellum and they are serving everything from the basic French fry, to waffle, to gravy and cheese curd doused Poutine. It goes without saying, you’re not going to visit this place if you’re watching your waistline, but for those gluttonous grubbers looking for a good time, it’s worth checking out. Like their slogan says, “Sometimes it’s good…

Brunch and Other Good Things at Thirsty Lion

A damn good fried potato aka French fry will always be a spot of weakness for me. Pair that with a well-seasoned spicy crispy chicken sandwich, and I’m ready to commit.  While I am not particularly crazy about a lot of chain eateries, when a place does things right, you’ve got to give props. And, without a doubt Thirsty Lion deserves quite a few props. Late last year Thirsty Lion joined multiple other eateries opening their doors at the Toyota Music Factory in Irving. With their founding roots in Portland, and knowing the delightful things I know about the grub in Portland, expectations were HIGH to say the least.…

Shell Shack Makes Henderson Home

Shell Shack – 4 Stars Seasoning soaked fingers are getting easier to come by. Shell Shack Uptown closed their doors recently and reopened a bigger, shellier space on Henderson Ave. This is just one of several latest Shell Shack locations to open. With the Henderson spot, Shell Shack is giving customers more patio space, more drinks and plenty of seafood. If you’ve never been, I always recommend going for a bag, preferably the Kitchen Sink with Dungeness crab, tators, sausage and broccoli. Crab connoisseurs should try the bairdi snow crabs here. It’s a little sweeter but less dense than your standard snow. According to Chief Executive Officer of Shell Shack,…

Satiating Spring at State & Allen Kitchen and Bar

State & Allen Kitchen and Bar 5 Stars Pork belly is quite the finicky food. If not prepared just right, particularly braised or fried, it simply does not work. Because of this I lead into every pork belly situation with caution. I extended this same fork first caution when trying out the new Crispy Pork Belly Tostadas at State & Allen Kitchen and Bar. After one bite it was clear my need for caution was absolutely unnecessary. The popular uptown neighborhood eatery recently launched a mouthwatering Spring menu that features 12 new bites and 17 signature new booze concoctions. This leads us back to their Crispy Pork Belly Tostadas. Topped…
