A damn good fried potato aka French fry will always be a spot of weakness for me. Pair that with a well-seasoned spicy crispy chicken sandwich, and I’m ready to commit.  While I am not particularly crazy about a lot of chain eateries, when a place does things right, you’ve got to give props. And, without a doubt Thirsty Lion deserves quite a few props.

The magnificent Seared Ahi Tuna Salad.

Late last year Thirsty Lion joined multiple other eateries opening their doors at the Toyota Music Factory in Irving. With their founding roots in Portland, and knowing the delightful things I know about the grub in Portland, expectations were HIGH to say the least. Recently I joined a few pals during Leisurely Leah’s, Blog and Brunch DFW and fell head over heels for quite a few dishes.

This spicy fried chicken sandwich and crispy fresh cut fries is truly my happy place.

I constantly give this disclaimer, when it comes to eggs, I only like them deviled. So, you can imagine my apprehension when the Traditional Scotch Eggs were ordered. A boiled egg is wrapped in pork sausage, breaded then fried to deep brown bliss. For someone on the iffy side when it comes to eggs, these were quite delightful, especially when paired with the ground mustard. Start with the eggs, but you should definitely fork your way to the Irish Whiskey French Toast. Dipped in cinnamon, whiskey and Irish cream egg batter, then coated with crunchy flakes and grilled with whipped cream and whiskey syrup, this stuff is kind of crispy sugar rush early morning magic. Add maple pepper bacon to even out the sweet, but more than likely you’ll want to share this.

The Scotch Eggs are pretty delightful.

Brunch is served at Thirsty Lion from 10:30 AM – 2 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. One of the best things about brunching here, besides the variety of fresh juice mimosas made with Prosecco is that you can choose items from their regular menu too. Hence, my morning rendezvous with a certain juicy spicy chicken sandwich topped with chipotle Napa slaw and scrumptious fries. If you’re interested in something filling but light, they offer quite a few salads. Most notable was the Seared Ahi Salad.  It’s a lovely medley of greens and veggies including arugula, red peppers, cucumbers and Napa cabbage combined with Mandarin oranges, crispy wontons, cilantro and wasabi ginger vinaigrette. The tuna is tender, fresh and plenty flavorful.

Next time you’re at the Toyota Music Factory taking in a show, do make your way to Thirsty Lion. The food is good. The drinks are good. All that’s needed is good company to enjoy it. Come thirsty. TxMB.
