Sushi Marquee 4 Stars

The best things that ever happened, happened in the 80s and early 90s. From the creepily joyful delight of Teddy Ruxpin to a few not so well matched high schoolers dancing across their library on a Saturday morning during detention. And let us never forget the iconic throaty laughter of a comedian named Eddie Murphy whose timely humor and bs behavior could be seen in a variety of action packed hits during the era. Combine all of those fuzzy feelings from the 80s and early 90s with sake and chopsticks plus a patio that’s like totally rad and you’ve entered Sushi Marquee.

Located inside Jerry Jones’ Star in Frisco, Sushi Marquee is just moments away from the Dallas Cowboys training facility. So, while waiting for your Japanese Mule at the long and beautiful bar, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see Dez Bryant at the other end. Besides the possibility of fanning out over players of pigskin, you’ll find that Sushi Marquee has some impressive digs. It spans over 5,000 feet, houses 30 high definition monitors and has a patio that as previously mentioned is rather rad. There’s a lot of fun and debauchery that can happen here for sure, but what of the food you say.

Despite its name, Sushi Marquee is not strictly for sushi lovers. Similarly to the space housing it, this restaurant has an expansive menu. Begin with the lamb lollipops. Complete with a lime chili sauce, they’re tender and simplistic. The lollipops aren’t exactly unforgettable, but welcoming. You’ll find this is the case with the lightly battered Dynamite Rock Shrimp as well. Interestingly, it’s the rich brothy chicken and onion soup with shitake mushrooms that’s one of the more memorable starters on the menu. But what of the sushi you may ask?

This spot has many of your standards, from tuna to smoked salmon sushi rolls, but go ahead and opt for one of their special creations. Once again, the 80’s make an appearance with most of the specialty rolls bearing the names of hit movies and saying of the era. Like The Highlander, a mix of spicy tuna, jalapeño, cilantro, avocado, topped with seared tuna, kanikama, ponzu and wasabi sauce. Other rolls of interest include the Sho Nuff and their namesake, The Big Marquee, which combines crab mix spicy tuna, avocado, cilantro then topped with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, jalapeño, spicy aioli and spicy ponzu sauce. Note that all of the rolls can be enhanced with one of their select sake pairings.

Sushi Marquee is something to see. From their beautiful bedazzled Buddha to their never ending patio and cocktails, It’s showy, but not exactly self important. Simply put, it’s righteous. TxMb.
