T Blancos, 4.3 Stars

Bite after bite, there was one word that kept coming to mind after diving fork first into each dish: Unexpected. From frozen Crown and Cokes to their apple slaw laced in cilantro, poblano peppers and zesty lime, T Blancos is definitely here to make taste buds ponder.

For their second location, T Blancos decided to go big in Addison. They occupy the building that once belonged to popular lounge and restaurant, Button’s. The space was completely revitalized, there’s even talks of adding an upstairs patio. Having never visited T Blancos’ original location in Lakeport, Texas, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the eatery. Still, I prepared my palate to experience gobs of cheese, sauce and starch. I’ve never been more wrong in my life.

Chef Jimmy Villarreal is interested in flavor, but not at the expense of your waistline. Even the mole is fairly light. “I want the flavor of the food to shine through,” he explained. According to Villarreal, many of the menu options are gluten free. Sure, you can still find the Tex-Mex standards here, but that’s not what you should gravitate to. After all, it’s about the unexpected like their Seafood Stuffed Jalapeno’s, a plentiful blend of seasoned shrimp, crabmeat, crawfish and cream cheese all wrapped up in apple smoked bacon. It comes with their apple jicama slaw. Note, if you prefer crispier bacon, you’ll need to request it. Another starter needed at your table are the crab cakes. Made with thick lump crab meat and poblano peppers, they’re more zesty than spicy.

Sneaky spices and flavors are the norm at T Blancos. It’s especially present in entrees like the Grilled Redfish Pomegranate, a dish made exceptionally mouthwatering by its use of jicama, baby heirlooms and the standout ingredient; ginger. The Margarita Chicken is unlike any margarita chicken I’ve ever eaten. Tender breasts are marinated in their signature margarita mix, giving the bird a dense pineapple, lime palatableness. Since great churros are hard to find, do your best to save room for the one’s here which are served with vanilla ice cream glazed in white and dark chocolate.

Sipping your dessert is also an option. Consider getting your sugar fix from the Frozen Crown and Coke. Think of a boozed up Coke slurpee with vanilla or apple Crown Royal. Other cocktails you may want to consider are the Summer Fling, El Jefe and the white sangria which only costs $3.00 during their daily happy hour from 2 PM-7 PM.

A visit to T Blancos’ latest location is definitely in order. If you’re ready for something lighter without skipping out on flavor, you’ll want to make your way here. When ordering, expect to be wowed by the unexpected. TxMb
