Benny’s Bagels- 5 Stars TXmb

When a girl is denied the glory of bagels and lox in her life something awful happens. She becomes obsessive. Searching high and low, she attempts to satisfy the cravings with not so great versions of a classic. Led by discontent, she finds herself booking the next flight to NYC. It is clear the plight for bagels and lox is real.

Saturday morning came and went like it always does. Once the afternoon rolled around my

stomach and brain initiated a conversation on bagels and lox. Together they shouted in dramatic dismay. The only real solution was Einstein Bros. A chain. They’d let me down on a few occasions. It wasn’t happening again. Sometimes that whole technology thing is pretty handy. So I gave it a go, and did a quick search on the “interweb”. Benny’s Bagels popped up, and just like that I was inside of Old Blue in search of my destiny.

Just wonderful, isn't it?

Benny’s is located in one of my favorite parts of Dallas, Lakewood. I love it mainly because of the Lakewood Theater and Balcony Club, oh and Angelo’s. But I digress. Inside is tiny. Looks like there may be 10-15 chairs and that’s pushing it. It’s more of a get it and go place. But, I needed to have it NOW. So I opted to enjoy my bagel in house. Being so crazed with hunger and not actually seeing bagels with lox on the menu, I asked the server, “Do you guys have bagels and lox?” He grinned, “Yes ma’am we do, and it’s the Pacific Salmon.” I looked up and read what was crystal clear in front of me. The Pacific Salmon was an open face bagel of your choice, 2 ounces of smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, tomato and onions. I ordered mine sans onion.

The first bite was nothing short of magical. There’s a true difference in the texture of a boiled, seasoned and fresh baked bagel oppose to someone just throwing it in a toaster. BIG difference. Soft toothsome chewy love melted happily in my mouth while the salmon, cream cheese and capers did some blissful cartwheels. Yes people it was that good. The cream cheese, which is made in house is a joy all its own. A handful of the options are the sweet Honey Almond Apricot, Jalapeño and Spinach Garlic Herb.

Since my first visit, I’ve already had another “attack.” Of course, I made my way back to Benny’s. Thanks to the bliss that is Benny’s Bagels, I won’t have to book that trip to NYC after all. TxMb
