Whiskey Cake Comes to Irving

There’s whiskey and there’s cake. The name of this restaurant alone brings joy to my taste buds. Now, Whiskey Cake is spreading that whiskey soaked joy to Irving. The eatery recently opened their sixth location, finally providing the folks of Las Colinas with a little taste. With their latest location, you can still expect to be whisked away by their ever growing whiskey selection. For the grubbers that know, their deviled eggs are still a staple, with the ingredients changing often. One day their filled with smoked salmon, another topped off with fried chicken skin. It’s rather remarkable to know that a deviled egg can be so damn…

Satiating Spring at State & Allen Kitchen and Bar

State & Allen Kitchen and Bar 5 Stars Pork belly is quite the finicky food. If not prepared just right, particularly braised or fried, it simply does not work. Because of this I lead into every pork belly situation with caution. I extended this same fork first caution when trying out the new Crispy Pork Belly Tostadas at State & Allen Kitchen and Bar. After one bite it was clear my need for caution was absolutely unnecessary. The popular uptown neighborhood eatery recently launched a mouthwatering Spring menu that features 12 new bites and 17 signature new booze concoctions. This leads us back to their Crispy Pork Belly Tostadas. Topped…

Grimaldi’s Enter’s Toyota Music Factory

Grimaldi’s is a pizza chain worth visiting. This is coming from a local restaurant and bar infatuated millennial. Recently the eatery made its way to Irving’s new Toyota Music Factory, giving us yet another reason to salivate over this space.  Before my visit, I’d never eaten at Grimaldi’s before, so I was pleasantly surprised by their wine selection. It’s not massive, but they do have a few of my favorites including the popular red blend 19 Crimes and the sexy If You See Kay from Lazio, Italy. My pal Mo Barrow and I decided to go with the highly recommended cabernet, Educated Guess. The flavor is fairly robust, earthy and dry.…

Devouring Denton: The Foodies Takeover

Getting out of town doesn’t always mean hoping on a plane. Sometimes you just need a getaway that feels far away without the matching price tag. So grab a few friends and make your way to a little town called Denton. Primarily known for cheap shots and college kids sporting Mean Green attire, one could easily dismiss Denton as being a party town for students. And while that’s true, this place still has more to offer than just Jell-O shots and freshman angst. To that avail, a few foodie pals and myself decided to descend upon the town and grub and sip our way through it. Before beginning our rendezvous…

A Look at Between the Buns

Burger lovers slid into slider heaven during the first ever, Dallas Observer Between the Buns event. Held at Dallas Farmers Market, some of the best sliders in town came out and showed out. Including favorites like Cook Hall, Chop House Burger, Haystack and my very beloved, Hutchins BBQ. While chowing down on sliders, cocktails and brews flowed at the cash bar and live music kept you shaking off the calories. After it was all said and done, if you weren’t waddling when walking out, you did something absolutely wrong. Here’s a glimpse at the goodness. PS, you may want to start saving room right now for next year’s Between…
