Zenna – 3 Stars

“I found this little sushi spot that supposedly has 50 cent beers, I think we should go there for happy hour tonight girlie.” “OK girl, let’s meet up around 4:30 at the place, it’s called Zenna and it’s somewhere downtown, I think the happy hour is from like 3 till 7, it’s on Law’s street.” “OK cool, I’ll see you at 4:30.”

Sad, sad sushi.

And so the rest of the work hours passed, and two drinking pals came together from their respectable work locations, in desperate need of good elixir and good food. Happy hour menus already aligned the table as the pair stared down in utter disbelief. Indeed, there were 50 cent beers, $2 hot sake, and $2 well drinks. Other joys included the happy hour food menu. Once the waiter came to the table, their eyes became doughy. The menu was so unthinkingly cheap, like wings for $4.20, various sushi rolls for under $4 and samosa’s for $3.50. Nothing, not anything on the menu was over $10, and for these two cheapskates that was some kind of wonderful. Being adventurous and hungry they ordered a table of appetizing tapas, including, yellowtail sushi rolls, spicy tamarind wings, heaven beef, steamed gyoza, 2 orders of spring rolls, samosa’s, and edamame.

A few bites of yellowtail sushi rolls were first up. Not so impressive. The gray tinted fish encompassed in rice had a not so fresh flavor. It was graciously pushed to the side. Then came a dive into the wings which were doused in bold tamarind sauce and slightly crispy; excellence. And every bite of every item on the table followed suit to excellence. After realizing they’d truly found a good thing, maybe one of the best things in life they raised their ochoko’s filled with $2 hot sake and said cheers. TXMB
