Cheap and tasty quesadillas.
Cheap and tasty chicken quesadillas.

Lunch 15 rolled around, and my coworker and I got a hankering for something. Something meaty, something cheesy. Off we went, allowing our desires for meat and cheese to lead the way. We ended up at a tiny joint called El Rey Del Grill. The place is about as unassuming as they come. It’s not the prettiest domain about town, but ugliness has never come between me and my food.

Pictures of various dishes lined the outside of the building, displaying for all to see what “comida” they had to offer. We entered. Inside we are greeted with more pictures of their offerings, along with prices. Looking over the walled menu of goodness, we grinned. I grinned even larger upon realizing nothing on this menu was over 8 bucks. I decided; this is perfection. Being the two indecisive ladies that we are, it took a moment. She decided on a chicken enchilada and tacos with re-fried beans and rice. I went with the chicken quesadillas and jicama lemonade.

Within 15 minutes we were chomping down. My quesadillas were the right amount of chicken and cheese, seasoned quite sublimely. The plate was served with a teasing tablespoon of guacamole that I slowly savored. Later I’d find myself feeling slighted by the dab, and craving more of it. The tacos and enchilada were also good, but the enchilada could have used more cheese.

No doubt El Rey Del Grill did the trick. I left happily satisfied with a promise to return. Six bucks in the hole and no belly aches to boot; that’s a cheap thrill worth getting excited over. TxmB
